  • Overview

    The Data Engineer is an owner-operator of a fast-growing complex online business with modern technology stacks; building analytical and infrastructure solutions that drive profitability via analytics.

     

    As a key member of the Big Data Analytics team, the Data Engineer will be responsible for creating and operating the Big Data environment that enables Efinancial and Fidelity Life Association to optimize business processes and grow rapidly.  The Data Engineer will aggregate and organize large sets of data in order to enable lead operations, analytics, and predictive modeling. 

    Responsibilities

    • Guide and implement the creation and maintenance of data structures and databases in AWS to support predictive model development, analytics, and business intelligence
    • Implement, test, document and deploy integrations and maintain production readiness for cloud-based technology stack including real-time streaming and batch feeds from multiple cloud-based and on-premise sources
    • Take on specific ELT projects to assimilate data from multiple new structured and unstructured data sources in batch or real-time, as appropriate
    • Assimilate and implement business rules to process raw data, using business knowledge of insurance agency and insurance carrier
    • Set up visualization tools to meet the needs of both cloud and on-premise user community
    • Serve as data steward and sherpa for Analytics team and third-party technology partners

     

    Qualifications

    • Must have hands-on experience with AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud platforms and/or desire to leverage modern AWS infrastructure as it is being released; e.g., Lambda, StepFunctions, Athena, Redshift Spectrum, etc.
    • Proven skills to create databases and deliver business intelligence from large digital marketing, financial services, or insurance data sets both in production and development environments
    • Strong verbal and written communications skills that enable you to explain data infrastructure complexity with clarity and precision to executive management
    • Experience developing insights with customer related data, root cause analyses, business case development, and working independently with internal and external technology partners
    • Proficiency in MS SQL/MySQL, and Tableau; knowledge of cloud-based data structures including Redshift, and programming languages such as Python a huge plus
    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or any related field
